churches
The practice has a large portfolio of church work in the north east. Chris has over 35 years experience working in the ecclesiastical field is a member of the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association.
He is inspecting architect to a number of churches in the north east. These include several grade 1, grade 2* and grade 2 listed churches. In addition to carrying out quinquennial inspections and conservation repair projects (see separate category), Chris has much experience with schemes of re-ordering; extensions; installation of kitchens and toilets; installation of new heating and lighting etc.
Chris has had the privilege of designing two new churches in the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle. St John the Evangelist at Kingston Park was constructed in 1991. This eye catching octagonal building was designed for flexibility of use and to serve both church and community based events.
St Martins in the Byker area of Newcastle is a purpose built centre completed in 2006, which provides 5 multi-purpose rooms, a chapel, a kitchen, toilets, a lounge, offices, activity room and a nursery wing. The centre is much used by the church and local community - 34 different organisations from the statutory and voluntary sectors used the centre, in the first six months after completion alone. The project won the Community Benefit Award in the RICS NE Renaissance Awards 2007 and was then short listed for the RICS National Finals 2007.
The practice is currently working on a major project to transform the interior of St Luke’s Church in Newcastle. The design includes the remodelling of the interior to create a flexible multi-purpose space, the enclosure of a side chapel with structural glazing, new kitchen and toilet facilities, new lighting and heating together with new carpets and full internal re-decoration. The internal remodelling will provide much needed facilities for this lively, active and growing church congregation. The internal refurbishment follows on from the conservation work to the building exterior carried out in 2014 – see conservation category.
